Think you know what to expect from me in October? You may be surprised!
My favorite month is finally here! I've always been the person who loves fall and spooky things so October holds a special place in my heart. If it's not your thing, I hope you're anxiously awaiting your own favorite month or season!
On to business! If you read my interview with artist, Tanager Haemmerle (Fairies and Finds, Indiscriminate Art), you will know she is completing Mab Graves Drawlloween 2018! It was our original intention that she draw a picture and I write a story based on that art piece. Unsurprisingly for anyone who follows me, things have changed.
Tanager will faithfully be drawing all month long and I will faithfully be writing...only separately! I will still bring you a month of stories (starting tomorrow) but we have something special planned for her art that I'm sharing with you now!
The drawing above is Tanager's first piece for the month with the prompt 'witch'. As soon as I saw that piece, I was inspired to write. That inspiration came with some stipulations.
I cannot possibly write one story for each of her drawings this month because I WILL INCORPORATE ALL OF THEM INTO ONE STORY! You heard me, as much as I've been smacking away any and all ideas for stories longer than a proper 'short', I embraced this one.
Without further ado, I am now introducing you to Gail, a little witch who isn't very good at being a witch. Her parents were expecting one little girl but were surprised with twins! Gail and her 'older sister' Abi may only be a few minutes apart, but there are plenty of differences.
My story will have Gail going on her own little adventure in the hopes of becoming a better witch. This story will be a first for me since I intend to make it appropriate for younger audiences. With Tanager's amazingly adorable art, I am definitely inspired to give you such a story!
While I won't share my work in progress, you can follow Tanager's Drawlloween and imagine what I may do with each character. Over the month, I plan to give you little hints but the big story will not be ready until early 2019.
Prompts are still welcome, especially if you want a spooky story! Tomorrow's story is all about sounds you hear when you're alone.
