An update for anyone still holding out hope that I am writing.
According to my webhosting site, I haven't posted an update since September of last year. 9 months of no updates and not even a baby to show for it. So...what I have been doing? The answer isn't that exciting.
Like most unpublished authors, the Day Job unfortunately takes a lot of my free time. Last year I found out my company would be downsizing my job due to wanting to outsource it to a 3PL. This...was not something I wanted to hear. I didn't have savings and honestly couldn't afford to miss a paycheck. Our household went a bit hectic as I scrambled for a new job.
Though there are some amazing writers out there who can produce words no matter what's going on, I am not one of them. I was creatively blocked for the most part. The stress of wondering where my next paycheck was coming from suppressed my creative side with a vengeance. I think I've put only two stories on the website since the whole job search began.
I DID end up finding a new day job and needed to spend some time focusing on ensuring I knew what in the world I was doing as it was completely different from anything I'd previously done professionally.
When I seemed to have reach a good place mentally, the pandemic began. I was lucky enough to learn that my job could be done from home though it did take an inordinate amount of energy to do it from home as our VPN isn't as fast as it should be.
It always seemed like one more thing came up to prevent me from writing as I wanted to. Something always needed my attention more than writing did. Now that we're in the midst of a much needed change in our country, namely the Black Lives Matter movement taking a big step forward, my voice is not what needs to be heard right now.
I am still writing and still doing my best to listen and fight for those who should have had true equality long before now. Will you see more stories from me? Certainly! I am not promising anything more at the moment as I have so many personal writing projects I need to give my time and attention to. FastorWrite is not dead and neither is the Secret Short Story Society! Keep an eye out for more news in the coming months!
